Refuge Service

The Refuge Service provides emergency temporary housing for single women and women with children who are fleeing domestic abuse and need a safe place to stay.

We run 4 refuges across Hampshire. We can house 24 women and up to 57 children at any one time in our refuges. All of our accommodation is shared. Each family has their own bedroom and shares kitchen, dining, utility and living facilities with the other families.

If we do not have a space in our refuges, we will help you to find a refuge space elsewhere.

Staying with Us

The project staff are on site between 9.30am and 5.30pm Monday-Thursday and 9.30-5pm Fridays. Outside of these hours on call staff can be contacted in an emergency. The project staff support the women and children living in the refuges. They provide a supportive and empowering environment and deliver both practical and emotional support. We work to empower women to move on from refuge accommodation and live lives free from domestic abuse. All refuge residents have an individual support plan which identifies goals, needs and objectives which the resident is supported and empowered to achieve.

Children and Young People’s Refuge Service

We have dedicated staff working with children and young people of all ages who stay with us at the refuge. Activities such as after school club, age appropriate sessions and both structured and free play are made available to enable children and young people in refuge accommodation to experience living and playing in a supportive environment free from violence or any forms of discrimination.

We work to help children and young people come to terms with their experiences of domestic abuse, and enable children and young people to overcome practical or emotional difficulties. By providing individual and group work with children and mothers, we work to reduce long term damage and by providing skilled help we enable children to begin to work through their experiences.

We also ensure that children and young people have fun.
